Hi all, I am a new member. We purchased a house in Castlevecchio Subequo 4 years ago and just found this forum! I have a question that I hope someone can answer. We are at our home in New Zealand and need to write out a cheque from our Italian bank  (Carispaq) which we will post to a friend in Italy to put into their Italian bank account. The top line of the cheque has 'li'  in the center of the page then a space for the euro amount on the right. I think we put the place where the cheque was written after li. Is that correct ? As we are in New Zealand should we put christchurch NZ there? Or will the cheque not be accepted if not written in Italy? What goes before li on the top line ? Our name? The bottom line has the letter a at the left. Do we just  sign there or do we print our name and sign? Our name is not printed on the cheques.  Hope someone can help, David

Hi David I agree it would be much easier to get your friends account details & make a transfer, or send cash, if it's a small enough account. But I too have a baffling Italian chequebook but I made a pencil note in it of what to write where. If you like I can dig it out & let you know what mine requires  Here is an old thread http://www.italymag.co.uk/forums/cost-living-utility-services/6346-writing-my-first-check-italian.html If you google "come scrivere un assegno" You will find lots of info & images too: https://www.google.com/search?q=come+scrivere+un+assegno&hl=en&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=qhmnT6vFKMav0QWpwNiJBA&ved=0CIMBELAE&biw=1356&bih=870 wink In bocco al lupo

Thanks for all your help, I can't do a transfer on internet banking from New Zealand, I would have to use an international transfer service or do it through my bank which would cost half of the amount of the cheque for their fees! So, I guess if it is a choice of a cheque or cash going missing in the mail, a cheque would be the best bet. Thanks again all, David

Scan a blank cheque - black out the account number, signature area etc [in case it goes astray] - email/fax it to your friend - ask him to fill it in properly [I assume he'll know what is required]  and resend it back to you.  Then you can copy the details onto a cheque, sign it  and post it to him
