transferring money

I need to transfer money from my wife's Italian bank account (she is resident here) to my account in the UK.  We use Custom House to make these exchanges, and the money will be going from her account to an account In Frankfurrt (Custom House then pays the sterling into my UK account).  Is there a problem transferring more than 5000 euros?  Will we get a visit from the Guardia di Finanza?  Grateful for any advice.

I was told by the bank that transferring more than 5000 euros at a time attracts too much attention. If it is not justified through the purchase of a property or a similar situation it seems that it is better to make smaller transfers. We transferred a large amount when we purchased our property, though, and there were no problems. But I am sure that they keep an eye....

Thanks for this.We also transferred a large amount from the UK to Italy when we bought our house here, and the bank, not the fisco, contacted us to check what the transfer was for.  They also stole 250 euros from it.  Anyway, it is all above board, so if the fisco do get interested we can just tell them we are now buying a property in the UK
