Florence Resident Slapped with 90,000 Euro of Traffic Fines

Susan Eileen Townsend has a large debt to settle with the city of Florence after flouting traffic laws around the city for years.

The British 62-year-old has long been a resident in one of Florence's posh neighborhoods and over the years, her car was photographed breaking traffic rules a staggering 1,500 times. All together, the fines for each violation amount to 90,000 Euro.

The well-to-do bad driver was snapped by traffic cameras as she broke the speed limit and ignored signs indicating restricted traffic areas.

Though her crimes were numerous, Italian police had a difficult time identifying Townsend as the repeat traffic offender because her Mercedes bore expired UK tags. Banned from accessing the UK's traffic database, police in Florence were tasked with tracking her down through pure perseverance.

Townsend has contacted a lawyer to assist her in fighting the 90,000 Euro in fines she has amassed, but the police department has clear evidence of her 1,500 infractions.
