Feast Season in Romagna

May and June are the months with the most feasts and festivals dedicated to Spring and its products. All the cities and little towns of Romagna warmly welcome the new season with big open-air celebrations. Almost every week-end of May, June and July people crowds squares and streets full of stalls and open-air markets. An opportunity to spend one or two days in a little town centre, eating seasonal products and discovering the typical recipes of Romagna.



Below is a list of just some of the feasts (or "sagre" as they are called in Italian) taking place in June.

In Santo Stefano (Province of Ravenna) from the 1st to 6 of June, you could get a taste of the first fruits of strawberry.

Again the cherries will be the protagonist of the cherry feast of Civitella di Romagna, province of Forlì: stalls, music and shows will celebrate the arrival of this tasty fruit. The chiefly appointment is the Feast of Artusi in Forlimpopoli. Artusi was the first writer of a Italian cooking book. He lived in the XIX century and born in Forlimpopoli, a little town between Forlì and Cesena, in the hearth of Romagna. Every year, the city celebrates its most important citizen with a gluttonous event. Restaurants, stalls and open-air kiosks offer the best Italian typical recipes and products, inspiring from Artusi book. The feast starts the 18 of June and last until 26. If you want to taste the typical sparkling wine of Emilia, the Lambrusco, don't miss the feast of Lambrusco, in Albinea (province of Reggio Emilia) from 16 to 19 of June (Tourist Office: ++39 0522 451152).
