Injured bus driver prevents disaster

Passengers on a Genoa bus were sent flying on Monday after the bus driver's seat collapsed from under him as he drove through morning traffic.

The driver found himself sprawled on the bus floor with a broken shoulder, but managed to reach the brake pedal with his hand and reduce the speed with which the bus hit a nearby wall.

Passengers were thrown forward by the impact but did not sustain injuries.

Doctors said the driver should recover from his broken shoulder in a little over a month.

Trade union leaders meanwhile hit out at the bus maintenance company, which last checked out the vehicle in January.
