Lombardy to lead New York's Columbus Day parade

(ANSA) - The region of Lombardy will lead this year's Columbus Day Parade in New York with a reproduction of the boat used by the character Lucia in Alessandro Manzoni's classic novel 'I Promessi Sposi' (The Betrothed).

The parade in honor of the Italian navigator will be dedicated to the theme of water and the northern region will also participate with a a copy of Italy's America's Cup entry +39 Challenge, which is registered with the Circolo Vela Gargnano (CVG) yacht club on Lake Garda.

The parade, now in its 61st year, takes place down on Fifth Avenue from 44th to 79th Street on Monday, October 10. It is followed by the Columbus Day festival which takes place in Manhattan's Little Italy district and celebrates Italian culture and New York's Italo-American community.
