(ANSA) - Milan - Milan is an ideal place to do business in, according to a survey of businesses operating in the northern Italian city. In a poll of 138 Milan-based businesses, 90% said it was the perfect place in which to work, 82% highlighted its international qualities and 77.6% pointed to the open-minded attitude of people living there.

However, the city's diversity also meant it was lacking in "social cohesion" said 56% of those questioned, while 85% complained of high operating costs, particularly property prices (72%).

The survey was unveiled during the 16th edition of the Milan Industry Prize, which awards particularly successful Milanese businesses.

Speaking at the event, the president of Milan's Chamber of Commerce, Carlo Sangalli, underlined the city's industrial expansion.

"Innovation and operations by young people are increasingly important here," he said. "Last year alone, over 30,000 businesses were opened in Milan by people under the age of 35".
