New running and walking trails in Dolomites

| Wed, 07/21/2010 - 06:03

Whether you prefer walking or running, you can now combine your sport with a nature holiday in the stunning scenery of the Dolomites and benefit from the fresh, mountain air. The Running Park Alpe di Siusi [Trentino Alto-Adige] was officially opened on Sunday and contains twenty well-signposted trails of varying length and difficulty.

Eight of the trails offer, in good weather conditions, magnificent views from 1,800 – 2,300 metres above sea level . The other twelve trails are at 900 – 1100 metres above sea level and take you around the charming towns of Castelrotto, Siusi and Fiè at the base of Mount Sciliar [Schlern] .

The difficulty of the trails is shown with blue, red and black signs so that visitors can choose from the Beginners’ Run, Nordic Walking, nature walks and longer trails such as the 18-kilometre Paul Tergat trail for serious athletes.

Kenyan marathon runners have been using the area for training for several years and on Sunday some of them participated in the inaugural 12.7- kilometre run, which was won by the Italian runner Hermann Achmüller.
