Smart Phone Application Allows Customised Tours of Tuscany

Exploring Italy’s immense cultural heritage can now be done with a modern twist. A new application for smart phones will allow visitors to customise their own tours of Tuscany’s many artistic treasures.

The Tuscan VISITO system can eliminate the need for guidebooks. VISITO stands for Visual Support to Interactive Tourism in Tuscany.

The interactive system allows tourists to use their smart phone to snap a photo of whatever monument or artistic landmark they find themselves in front of. The VISITO application will recognize the monument and offer up facts and historical information relevant to the exact location of the user.

As the user receives geolocalized information that is directly related to the landmarks they find most interesting, they can also upload the pictures they take to the application’s server. Once the Tuscan vacation is over, the VISITO user can turn the sequence of personal photos into a 3D tour to share their Italian experience with others.

For more information or to try the application for yourself, visit the VISITO website.
