Barter Your Italy Stay

Barter goods and service for your stay in Italy. “Barter Week” takes place November 18-24 at thousands of Bed & Breakfasts across Italy.

Possibly inspired by the current economic crisis, the bed-and-breakfast.it website has launched the initiative that allows guests to trade goods and services instead of paying for their stay.

The list includes Coca-Cola memorabilia, a pedicure, satin sheets, lessons in English, yoga or international cuisine, traditional Native American clothing, and more.

In Rome, where 83 B&Bs take part in the “Barter” event, some offer the bartering option all year round: you could become a gardener tending to B&B La Scalinatella’s balcony plants for a three-day stay; or, if you have roller skates, rain gear, organic olive oil and bags from the Cambridge Satchel Company, you can trade them for a stay at the Casa dei Colori.

While many B&Bs specify what they need, travelers can also offer their own services and goods. They can either contact the B&B directly or enter their trade proposal through the Barter Week website.
