British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver will close down three of his Union Jacks restaurants, the chain he founded with the intent to enhance traditional British cuisine using artisanal ingredients.

His company will instead invest to expand Oliver’s successful chain of 30+ Italian restaurants, Jamie’s Italian, based on the concept of the local trattoria.

Only one Union Jack restaurant will remain open (in Covent Garden) after the chain failed to attract enough clients.

On the other hand, the company is scheduled to open at least three Italian restaurants in the next few months, in Piccadilly, Newcastle, and abroad in Stockholm.

Oliver is planning a massive international expansion for the Jamie's Italian chain. He has announced plans to open new locations in Brazil, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the U.S., Turkey, Russia, and Singapore. Italy is not on the list.
