Halloween in Italy

Cinecittà World, a theme park in Rome dedicated to the golden era of movie-making in the Italian capital, is celebrating Halloween with some new ‘spooky’ attractions.

One is the so-called Horror House, a walking itinerary among the scariest sets of horror movies such as The Ring, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Exorcist and Friday the 13th, as well as Lord Voldemort’s cave inspired by the Harry Potter saga. Special effects will envelop visitors in the live show Trucchi da Paura (Fearful Tricks), which reveals the secrets behind the making of horror movies. Other shows include Inferno, a roller coaster ride in the dark taking place among Dante’s hell rings, and Inferno Lo Show, which features seven acrobat-dancers dancing in space in gravity-defying moves.

The park, which has doubled its visitors since last year, has extended its opening schedule to November 1 to celebrate Halloween. It will reopen from December 8 to January 7, with special holiday events and a New Year’s Eve party.

The regular attractions and rides are inspired by the movies filmed in Rome’s Cinecittà studios, and by film genres. None other than Academy Award-winner Ennio Morricone composed some of the music visitors to the park hear as background. Production designer and three-time Academy Award winner Dante Ferretti designed the park.
