A Flag-Waving Celebration in Florence

| Sat, 03/01/2014 - 01:30

Tomorrow, Sunday, the Bandierai degli Uffizi in Florence and the Sbandieratori de L 'Aquila will celebrate their twinship with a double performance in Piazza della Signoria.

The Bandierai degli Uffizi is a historical group carrying the flags, emblems and historical costumes representing Florence's administrative authorities of the powerful 16th century Florentine Republic. They are the only flag-waving group that officially represents Florence. The Sbandieratori de L’Aquila are their counterpart for the Abruzzo town.

At 3.15 pm, the two groups will begin a procession along the streets of the centro storico (historic center), while the exhibition in Piazza della Signoria is scheduled for 3:30 pm.

Afterwards, in the Salone Brunelleschi of the Palagio di Parte Guelfa, the twinship will be formally made official in the presence of the president of the Calcio Storico Fiorentino (Historic Florentine Soccer) Michele Pierguidi and local authorities from L’Aquila with an exchange of gifts and official signature on a parchment.
