Five new exhibition halls are set to open at the famous Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice in late April 2015, shortly before the beginning of Milan’s Expo 2015.

The exhibition space will increase from 5,000 to 10,000 square meters with the number of exhibited works going from 300 to 500. The new spaces, in the Grandi Gallerie on the ground floor of the museum, will display paintings from the 17th century, including pieces by Gianbattista Tiepolo, Rosalba Carriera and Pietro Longhi, and will feature a section dedicated to Antonio Canova. Large altarpieces by Pietro da Cortona and Luca Giordano, works by Sebastiano Ricci and Gianbattista Pittoni and Francesco Hayez masterpieces among others will come out of storage for the public to enjoy.

It is all happening thanks to an agreement signed by the museum, Samsung Italia and the Venetian Heritage Foundation.

The digital company Samsung has invested 600,000 euros in the project. The museum will also feature an interactive classroom for schools, with two digital blackboards and 25 mobile devices, and an application to download interactive contents to personalize the visit.

The Gallerie dell'Accademia, housed in the Scuola della Carità on the south bank of the Grand Canal, in the sestiere of Dorsoduro, is a museum of pre-19th-century art.
