Star of TV series ‘Mad Men’ Christina Hendricks says she has Italy to thank for her curvaceous figure. The 38-year-old American actress plays secretary turned office manager Joan Harris in the TV series, which follows the fortunes of staff at the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce Advertising Agency in New York during the 1960s. Hendricks has won praise for her acting in the show – and for her hourglass figure, which is shown off to good effect in the figure-hugging styles of the day. Hendricks began acting at school and went into modelling at the age of 18. British newspaper ‘The Sun’ reveals that Hendricks developed her voluptuous figure after spending time working in Italy as a model when she was young. Hendricks said: “I started out as a model and when I went to Italy to build my book I gained 15lb from all the pasta and cappuccinos that were part of my life over there. I saw my body change and I loved how it changed my appearance and how it made me look more womanly and sexy.” The shapely actress’ figure has attracted attention because it goes against contemporary trends. Her body shape recalls those of Italian maggiorate of the 1950s and 1960s, including Gina Lollobrigida and Sophia Loren.
