Kate Beckinsale was spotted in Rome just ahead of filming for “The Face Of An Angel,” a fictionalized adaptation of a book about the Amanda Knox murder trial.

Beckinsale will portray an American journalist in Italy covering the trial after a British student is murdered in Tuscany.

The British actress was photographed out and about in Rome with Barbie Latza Nadeau, author of “Angel Face: Sex, Murder And The Inside Story Of Amanda Knox,” the book upon which the movie is based.

Latza Nadeau covered the murder case against Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito, accused of the murder of British student Meredith Ketcher in Perugia in November 2007. A retrial is currently under way in Florence.

“There will be recognisable elements from the Kercher case but the film is more of a mirror of the events that went on in the background – the media frenzy surrounding the story,” Latza Nadeau, an American correspondent in Italy since 1997, told The Telegraph.

In an interview with The Guardian, Beckinsale said the film is not about Amanda Knox. "That case is peripheral," she said. "This is not a whodunnit."

The film is directed by Michael Winterbottom and also stars Rush-star Daniel Bruhl as a struggling filmmaker  and supermodel Cara Delevingne as a student at college.

Filming will take place in Rome and Tuscany, with release in 2014.
