Pompeii, 79 A.D. Milo is an enslaved gladiator in love with the beautiful daughter of a wealthy merchant who has been unwillingly betrothed to a corrupt Roman senator. As Mount Vesuvius erupts, Milo must fight his way out of the arena in order to save his beloved, an event that also brings him face-to-face with the man who slaughtered his family years earlier. All of this while the once magnificent Pompeii crumbles around him.

This is the plot at the center of “Pompeii,” a 3D action movie directed by Paul W. S. Anderson scheduled to be released tomorrow in Italy (in the picture above, a movie theater in Rome advertises the movie) and Friday in the USA. The big-budget action epic stars Kit Harington, Emily Browning, Kiefer Sutherland, Jared Harris and Carrie-Anne Moss.

Before production, the filmmakers spent six years researching the volcanic disaster that destroyed Pompeii to make the film as historically accurate as possible.
