Renaissance GIFs: A Digital Twist on Renaissance Art

| Sat, 11/09/2013 - 05:00

For the past year, artist James Kerr has been creating a GIF every day involving Renaissance art. He creates digital collages that poke fun on northern and early Renaissance artists and paintings.

As the Huffington Post wrote, "The traditional depictions of the prim and proper upper classes get the royal internet treatment with Kerr's irreverent mashups, giving lords and ladies a taste of 2013's naughtiest vices. Be warned, the following GIFs are truly hilarious and twisted. You will never be able to see the Renaissance the same way."

In the image above, you can see Kerr's play on a portrait by Giuseppe Arcimboldo, a 16th century Italian painter known for creating portrait heads made of fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish and books.
