Italian screen legend Sophia Loren is the guest of honor at the 67th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.

Today, she will lead a sold-out Actress Masterclass, hosted by journalist Danièle Heymann, where she will look back at her career and her links with the Festival de Cannes.

On Monday evening,  she took centre stage at the Festival gala dinner honoring her nearly seven-decade career and shared memories and recounted anecdotes regarding  Marcello Mastroianni with whom she starred in 12 films.

"He was an amazing man with a great sense of humor and when we got tired, he would begin to tell jokes. It was 20 years of work and fun", said Loren about Marcello, whose face is appearing everywhere in the monumental official festival poster.

For the occasion, the festival screened a restored version of Marriage Italian Style (Matrimonio all’italiana) (1964), Vittorio De Sica's masterpiece, which was preceded by the presentation of her latest work Human Voice (Voce Umana), a short film directed by her son, Edoardo Ponti, an adaptation of the Jean Cocteau play.

Sophia Loren first appeared on the Croisette in 1955, causing a stir and becoming the most photographed woman at the event. She was the winner of the 1961 Best Actress prize for Two Women, and presided over the 1966 Palme jury.

The Actress Masterclass with Sophia Loren, hosted by journalist Danièle Heymann, will take place at 4.45 p.m. on Wednesday 21st May,  Buñuel Theatre.
