Amici di Italy Magazine,
Pasqua, Easter, is a wonderful time to explore Italy. Traditional rituals starting on Palm Sunday and finishing on Easter Sunday, coupled with a warm spring atmosphere and special seasonal food, add more interesting elements to a trip around the country. Unquestionably, the South of Italy is particularly well-known for its celebrations and traditional Easter food; in the past, we've written about some of the top destinations for those interested in experiencing Easter in Italy, from Sicily to Sardinia to Abruzzo. This year we looked into la Settimana Santa in Puglia.
For those who want to bring the taste of a true Pugliese Easter at home, do not miss the Scarcelle recipe, a typical Easter sweet made of flour, eggs, sugar and shaped into dolls, eggs, doves, or simple doughnuts, then topped with colourful sprinkles. A must if you are cooking for children!
In a special feature entitled Quaerere Deum (Seeking God) we talked about the incredible story of some young American monks who moved to Norcia in the year 2000 breathing new life into the birthplace of St Benedict in Norcia, Umbria. We included a documentary about life in the convent recently published, in the hope this could offer a moment of reflection to all our readers, religious and non religious ones, in a time of social and economic turmoil and confusion like the one we are currently going through.
A presto!
