Amici di Italy Magazine,
Nestled in the foothills of the Alps, the city of Brescia is a wonderful discovery for anyone traveling in the northern region of Lombardia. While most pass through to enjoy world class skiing and hiking at nearby Val Brembana, those who decide to visit the Leonessa d'Italia, the Lioness of Italy, are rewarded with dazzling displays of diverse ancient architecture, art and history just a stone's throw from the Italian Lakes.
And if you are staying in Brescia you cannot miss a visit to writer Gabriele D'Annunzio's house, the Vittoriale degli Italiani. On the 150th anniversary of the birth of this famous Italian poet, Carol King took a look at his unusual home right on the shores of Italy's Lake Garda in Gardone Riviera. She explained how the contrast between the large garden with views across the sparkling waters of the lake and the gloomy, bizarre ambience of D'Annunzio's house, make the Vittoriale an interesting place worth seeing.
Italians are famous for keeping close ties with their families. That sense of familial connection applies when it comes to doing business too, whether it's running a pizzeria or an international fashion house. In the first of a new series focusing on famous Italian families, we looked at the family that built the Versace fashion empire.
This year we created a 2013 Italy Magazine desktop wallpaper calendar. We hope you liked the idea and downloaded the first months. It is now possible to download the May page.
A presto!
