We hope you had a Happy Christmas and are already planning for New Year Holiday.

Nativity scenes are popular in Italy and beyond, but the custom of holding a 'presepe vivente' (living crib) is particular to Italy and is still very popular around the country. Carol King reports from Sicily on a magical Christmas tradition set in a 19th-century Sicilian village atmosphere.

Now, having survived the Maya prophecy, we think it is time to start preparing to celebrate 2013. Getting ready for New Years Eve, John Bensalhia looked ahead to some of the highlights in Italy.
