Amici di Italy Magazine,
Buon Carnevale
It's carnival time in Italy and with it comes the promise merrymaking aided by good food, crazy costumes, spooky masks, spectacular processions of floats and handfuls of flying confetti. We selected the Top 10 Italian Carnivals for you, from Puglia to Piedmont, from Sicily to Venice, a great guide to what promise to be the best carnivals to visit if you are planning a trip to Italy this February.
This week, Carol King took us to the town of Pisogne on the shores of Lake Iseo in Brescia, Lombardy, where she visited the the small 15th-century church of Santa Maria della Neve (Saint Mary of the Snow) to admire the magnificent fresco cycle by the Brescian painter Romanino who foreshadowed Caravaggio.
A wonderful exhibition, 'Valentino: Master of Couture', dedicated to the supreme artistry of Italian designer Valentino runs at London's Somerset House until the 3d of March. Exhibition highlights include Jackie Kennedy's wedding dress of 1968, and Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece's beautiful mid-90s, bridal vision in lace, to the trend-setting vintage gown worn by Julia Roberts when she won an Academy Award in 2001. Julie Burns talked to exhibition designer and co-curator Antonio Monfreda to find out more.
A presto!
