Ciao a tutti,
On the 7th of July 1881, Tuscan writer Carlo Lorenzini, known as Carlo Collodi, released the first chapter of "Le avventure di Pinocchio. Storia di un burattino" on the children newspaper "Il Giornale per bambini". To celebrate this special 130th anniversary of a little wooden puppet that has enthralled generations of children around the world, we set a literary dual-language challenge presenting the first chapter of the story in English and Italian for you to test your language skills. But mind you! No help from the Blue-haired Fairy is allowed;)!
If you have been to Venice, you have taken at least one picture of one of the many statues or stone faces of lions spread around the Venetian's "calli" (alleyways) or "campi" (squares). If you have not had the chance to go yet, you will see that the Lions of Venice will conquer your heart as soon as you step into the lagoon as their proud image is everywhere in Venice. To know more about the history of the Lions of Venice and what they symbolise do not miss our dedicated feature.
If you had any doubts about taking that vacation to Italy sooner rather than later, Daniel Resheter's story shows you how inspiration to make that dream come true can come from the most varied sources. And the great part is that you will never regret it!
We want to thank you again for all the stories you sent us using the "share your story" form, please keep them coming - as they provide such an interesting look into everyone's relationship with Italy.
A presto!
ITALY team
