ITALY Newsletter

Amici di Italy Magazine,

Twenty years ago, anti-mafia magistrate Paolo Borsellino was killed by the mafia on the 19th of July 1992. We marked the anniversary of his tragic death with an interesting interview by Carol King with internationally recognised expert and writer on the history of Italian organised crime, John Dickie.

In this week Meet the Author series we suggest Nicky Pellegrino's novel for a wonderful Italy summer read. And why not finding out directly from Nicky what inspired her to write these interesting stories and how she managed to turn her dream of writing about Italy and her Italian family into reality!

The countdown for the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games has begun and as we get ready for the most exciting sport event of the year, Keith Gregson recalled past Olympic games in Italy, from the very first winter games held in 1956 in Cortina d'Ampezzo to the unforgettable first summer Olympics held in Rome in 1960.

A presto!

TAX ALERT - Do you need to file?

We are hearing of increasing numbers of non-Italians getting stung for not filing tax returns in Italy. Are you sure you shouldn't be filing too? Remember, if you earn any income at all in Italy, for example from renting out your property, you should be filing. If your house has a catastal value of over €500, you should be filing. If you live in Italy for most of the tax year, you should be filing.

It's not too late - the Revenue have extended the deadline for filing until 20th August. If you are in any doubt as to what your obligations are, please get in touch.

And if you want to check your catastal value, just send us your codice fiscale and we'll get a certificate to you FREE OF CHARGE.
