Ciao a tutti,
A varied musical week for Italy Magazine!
We started with a feature dedicated to the intriguing history of Allegri's Miserere. From Pope Urban VIII who prohibited its use outside the Sistine Chapel to Mozart's talent that finally freed it after 150 years, discover the interesting story behind this celestial piece of music.
This week also marked the beginning of our collaboration on Italian Folk Music with the Alan Lomax Archive at the Association for Cultural Equity in New York City. To know more about Alan Lomax post-WWII research in Italy and Italian Folk Music enjoy this article by the Director of Research and Development, Geoffrey Clarfield.
Finally, an exclusive interview with Italian musician Marcella Puppini, of The Puppini Sisters, a unique girl trio increasingly popular in Europe. Their signature close and jazzy harmonies span 1940s classics - such as Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and If It Ain't Got That Swing to kooky takes on contemporary hits such as Beyonce's Crazy in Love, The Bangles' Walk Like an Egyptian, Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights and The Smiths' Panic.
Marcella talks about her Italian roots and her life between London and Bologna.
A presto!
