As former Pope Benedict XVI left office to stay in lodgings at the apostolic palace at Castel Gandolfo before he transfers to a monastery on Vatican Hill, the Vatican announced that the conclave to elect a new pope could start on 11 March hoping to have a new pope by Easter.
