Auguri a tutte le donne!

To honour International Women's Day, on the 8th of March, Elizabeth Ganley-Roper offered her views on the complex situation of women in Italy and celebrated five of the most influential living Italian women: Rita Levi Montalcini, Sonia Ghandi, Sophia Loren, Miuccia Prada and Rita Borsellino.

As she pointed out, the list is not by any means exhaustive, but these five women set examples for success in the face of adversity in fields ranging from science to politics and from fashion to cinema and can surely serve as inspiration to all.

Lonely Planet, the largest travel guidebook publisher in the world, recently published a list of "10 of the world's unsung places" and Trieste, in Friuli Venezia Giulia, ranked number 1 on the list. We couldn't agree more, the city is a very charming location, it oozes the atmosphere of Mittle-Europa, whit its elegance and interesting history. Kate Wickers shared her "secret" experience in the city.

Finally, our expert, attorney Nick Metta offers his advise on key estate planning actions for Italian property investors in light of the current increase of the VAT (in Italian called IVA or imposta sul valore aggiunto) applicable to property purchased from developers.

A presto!

Practical help in a language you understand: IMU

Calling all those owning property in Italy. Have you heard about IMU? It is a new tax which applies to all properties, prima casa or not. Which means that if you have property in Italy, you need to be paying IMU.

Do you count as resident for IMU? If your property is just your holiday home, you don't, which means you won't be eligible for the discounted rate.

And if your property is registered at the Catasto as more than one unit (and many are) you will only get the discounted rate on part of your property.

How do you find out? If you send us your codice fiscale, we'll send you your land registration certificate FREE OF CHARGE.
