Amici di Italy Magazine,
In the Middle Ages, Italy may have been wrecked by a turbulent succession of bloodthirsty wars, but it also saw art, culture, architecture and engineering flourish like never before.
Today, many Italian towns hold fascinating re-enactments of those times. Some are just parades commemorating historic events, but in other places the Middle Ages come fully back to life, with ancient markets, games, tournaments, and villagers dressed in period costumes against the backdrop of looming castles. We have selected three of the very best summer re-enactments where you can really get a taste for medieval life in Italy.
And if you also want to experience sleeping in a Medieval building, you can fulfill this fantasy in Bologna, where a 900-year-old tower in the heart of a medieval town has been converted into a bed & breakfast consisting of one multi-level suite.
This week saw the 31st commemorative edition of what Enzo Ferrari called the "most beautiful race in the world". Each year the most beautiful vintage cars in the world participate in the Mille Miglia (1,000 Miles) race from Brescia to Rome and back. The Mille Miglia covers 994 miles and traverses some of the most breathtaking regions of the Italian peninsula. Carol King visited the museum dedicated to the race - and much more.
We launched the second cycle of our "Share Your Italian Story" series with Dawn Cavanagh-Hobbs's story about how she fell in love with Italy and moved to the stunning region of Le Marche. If you too want to Share Your Italian Story get in touch using this form.
This year we created a 2013 Italy Magazine desktop wallpaper calendar. We hope you liked the idea and downloaded the first months. It is now possible to download the May page.
A presto!
