Amici di Italy Magazine,
In May 2012, two major earthquakes occurred in Northern Italy, causing 26 deaths and widespread damage. The first earthquake struck in the heart of the Emilia-Romagna region, about 36 kilometres north of the city of Bologna, on the 20th of May, killing seven people. Nine days later, on the 29th of May, a magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck the same area causing an additional twenty deaths and widespread damage, particularly to buildings already weakened by the previous earthquake. Though it spared major cities, the quake gravely affected the countryside around Bologna, Modena, and Ferrara, an area filled with historic villages, Parmesan production, and factories.
We believe that one of the best ways to help people getting back on their feet is to support the local economy and return to visit the area. This is why we dedicated this week to Emilia Romagna. Silvia Donati explained the history and characteristics of Parmesan cheese and then took all the foodies out there shopping in Bologna for tortellini, tagliatelle, mortadella and more delicacies...
For our interviews series, Briana Palma talked to Catherine Fulvio, a rising star in Ireland's culinary scene who shared her love and passion for Italian cuisine.
Our What's available on the...le Marche-Abruzzo border feature this week was dedicated to the wonderful area between Le Marche and Abruzzo.

This year we created a 2013 Italy Magazine desktop wallpaper calendar. We hope you liked the idea and downloaded the first months. It is now possible to download the May page.
A presto!
