Amici di Italy Magazine,
In November, on St. Martin's Day, must turns into wine, and Italy welcomes its "vino novello" with numerous celebrations nationwide including wine festivals, the preparation of traditional sweets and sagre. We decided to dedicate this week to the 'green heart of Italy', Umbria.
Mark Millon introduced us to the wines of Umbria, where he discovered an ancient wineland where vines still grow up trees, as they did at the time of the Etruscans, and its modern state-of-the-art wineries which produce truly outstanding and individual wines.
Christine Webb explored the charming capital of Umbria with a special Day Tripper to Perugia, taking us around this charming star shaped city perched on a hilltop overlooking the Tiber valley.
Finally, if you like Umbria and its wines, you will also love its beer. Just go to Norcia and find out more about how the monks at the Monastero di San Benedetto (Monastery of St Benedict) in Norcia, opened their Birra Nursia brewery.
A presto!
