This week we continued our series celebrating Italian Cinema. After presenting the "Top Ten Italian Actresses of the Past" and the "Top Ten Italian Actors of the Past", we came back to the present with a selection of well-known, acclaimed performers gracing the screen in recent decades, "Top Ten Italian Actors and Actresses of the Present".
From Italian movies to the controversial figure of Italian-American, adult movie-maker, Gerard Damiano. His 1972 landmark film 'Deep Throat' caused a worldwide sensation becoming both the highest-grossing film of the decade and a scalding talking point.
Julie Burns looked into the contradictions around the first hard-core adult film to reach a mass/mixed sex audience. She also talked to Damiano's son about the forthcoming 'Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story' which explores the controversy about actress Linda Susan Boreman.
Gerard Jr. told us: 'The makers of 'Lovelace' would have us believe that 'Deep Throat' was created by a committee of the worst Italian stereotypes, who were convinced throughout…that they were going to make a fortune...".
