Amici di Italy Magazine,

This week we celebrated l'Autunno, Autumn, with two special features, one dedicated to extra virgin olive oil and one to the Ottobrata Festival on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily.

Between October and November, from North to South, the Italian countryside starts smelling of olive oil as all producers collect the olives and rush to the local frantoio (olive press) to have them pressed immediately. We decided this was the best time of the year to publish a Foodie Guide to Extra Virgin Olive Oil and offer some tips to help you choosing the right product for you and get ready to buy the fresh 2012 olive oil as soon as it will be available in late December/January.

Now in its 34th year, the Ottobrata provides the opportunity to stock up on Sicilian specialties like pomegranates, prickly-pear fruit, wine, grapes, olives, pears, chestnuts, porcini mushrooms and cheese. In a special feature dedicated to this Festival, Carol King sampled the tastes, sounds and smells of one of Sicily's most popular festivals on the slopes of Mount Etna.

In the light of the results of a recent study by the research institute Censis reporting that 31% of Italians under the age of 40 still live at home with their parents, Silvia Donati talked to Lorena and Cecilia, who are experiencing being thirty and living with mamma and papà, to find out if this generation of young Italians are "Mammoni by need or by choice".

A presto!

IMU - again!

News affecting everyone with property in Italy. To everyone's surprise, it now appears that each property-owner must give separate notice to the relevant Comune declaring that they are the owner of the property for IMU purposes.

The deadline was 30 September - as the Government itself hasn't got round to producing the forms on which the notice is to be given, they will be postponing the deadline, probably until the end of the year.

If you wish to instruct us to file the notice on your behalf please visit our website: www.studiodelgaizopicchioni.it
