Amici di Italy Magazine,
'Life is More with Colours' these are Ottavio Missoni's words, the man who founded the iconic fashion brand of zigzag-patterned knitwear with his wife Rosita in 1953 and died in May aged 92.
2013 marks Missoni's sixtieth anniversary, and to celebrate this milestone, the Italian house created their Summer 2013 and Fall/Winter 2013-2014 collections to take us backwards and forward in time, between the past and the future of the Missoni fashion label. Yet the much-anticipated anniversary must seem bittersweet, in the event of two terrible deaths, Ottavio, and, his eldest son Vittorio, who was on a small aircraft that disappeared en route to an island off the coast of Venezuela in January.
This week ITALY Magazine celebrated their lives and achievement, writing about the incredible 60 year journey of the Missoni fashion house, from London's 1948 Olympics to becoming one of the best ambassadors of made-in-Italy in the world.
But many people do not know that the Missoni dynasty is also associated with award-winning wine-making. We talked to Elisabetta Missoni, Ottavio's niece, who is behind the Foffani wine label that she produces with her husband Giovanni Foffani in Friuli Venezia Giulia. They also organise a special exhibition called i Colori dei Vini, the 'Colours of Wine' in true Missoni style.
And this week we also celebrated another important anniversary, the 700th anniversary of the birth of 14th-century Italian author and poet, Giovanni Boccaccio, who is best known for his allegory, 'The Decameron'. Do not miss the Top 5 Quotes we selected for you.
Next week do not miss our guide to What's On in Italy during the Fall and our feature about the 7th edition of the International Mortadella Festival. Watch out also for our dedicated feature on the legends surrounding San Gennaro and the miracle expected every year in Naples by the saint's devotees.
This year we created a 2013 Italy Magazine desktop wallpaper calendar. We hope you liked the idea and downloaded the first months. It is now possible to download the September page.
A presto!
