When you travel to Italy you may feel that what Pat calls your "inner barometer" gets confused, if not entirely lost. That inner "weather sense" fails you and you make choices that lead you in the middle of a storm with shorts and a t-shirt or leave you indoors while the feared storm never takes place. This misunderstanding may depends on where you are from and where in Italy you are right now, for example, if you are in Sicily, you may expect "terra rossa" (literally "red earth") falling from the sky! If you can't believe that, read last week Patti Chiari story.
Climate conditions are likely to change starting from September. But sunny days still abound during the Autumnal months and provides a few more chances for outdoor events to be organised throughout Italy. Like the the Man in the Iron Mask, a re-enactment inspired by the legend of a french prisoner, brought from France to Pinerolo by D'Artagnan and his Three Musketeers. It is in the same town, Pinerolo (Piedmont), that the whole story is interpreted each year by people dressed in medieval costumes and by a man in the iron mask who shows his face the last day of the event. Usually he's an Italian celebrity.
In Umbria, the green heart of Italy, there is the Eurochocolate event - and we have a guide with great tips for chocolate loving travellers! Rebecca Winke gives us many ideas on how to enjoy chocolate throughout and in ways that you may have not imagined but will surely not mind.
Finally, in the deep south, a huge international event starts today: the Extreme Sailing Series landed in the Port of Trapani (west Sicily) for the penultimate round of this year. An exciting experience for all those passionate about sailing!
Buona Settimana,
