Hello! My son moved to Italy a month ago, and boy do I miss him!  He is currently living in Sacile, in an apartment with only an air bed.  I feel so bad for him and want to help, but I can not go visit at present.  I want to get him a recliner for his birthday and have no idea how to do that. My question is, are there any furniture stores within an hour or so that I can send him to for the chair?  Also, are there any good secondhand shops or markets that I could tell him about so he can start furnishing his apartment, as his budget it tight?  I am so looking forward to visiting him, and Italy, in fall or spring,  II feel fortunate to have found this site! Thanks in advance!

Hi, I was hoping that someone closer to where your son lives will come up with a comprehensive list; however, this is my advice: there are two names that come to my mind immediately, one is the proverbial IKEA (www.ikea.it) and the Italian Mondo Convenienza (www.mondoconvenienza.it) and both deliver and assemble at an extra cost. It will also be important to check local shops and hypermarkets. As for second hand shops, they are not as popular in Italy as they are in other parts of the world. Markets tend to be devoted to antique and vintage items, and nowadays they are not cheap, as foreign dealers are buying from them and prices have increased dramatically. There are also outlets called "Mercatino dell Usato", but, if they are like their Tuscan counterparts, no bargains to be found. Good luck! smiley

I miss my town!  MercatoneUno is really close on SS-13.  Or farther out on SS-13, SME in Susegana.  It's an hour west but has bigger selection than Uno and they deliver and assemble.  I've bought stuff from both, they're fine.  Both can even customize design with standard modular components.  Tell my friends at Ladri I said ciao.
