Hi, I am buying an apartment in Italy and have been given a quote from the Notaio for the purchase, however I have been asked by the seller to pay for the registration fee to the tax office, should this be a cost for the seller or the buyer? If it is the buyer why didn't the Notaio include it?  Thank you for reading and I hope someone can help

purchase fees are always borne by the purchaser, they must be paid to the notary, on the day of signing of the buying public - and the notary, in turn, pays it to  the tax office Ugo , by www.lifeinitaly.it

Thank you for your reply however I was given a quote by the notary and this isn't included in his quote, but the seller says this is in addition. And nothing to do with the notary. this is what I don't understand. My friend bought a house recently and she didn't pay this registration tax. I would have thought that anything I have to pay should be through the Notaio I wonder if anyone else has paid this? My fees for the Notaio were already fixed

so , if cousin do not pay italian tax now .. him pay after with more taxes :) , this is italian law - Dura lex , sed Lex ( latinum) - yes tax for traspassing is additional on sale price -  i hope that cousin + friend - do not check with attention the notary invoice -  more info here . if you will  http://www.lifeinitaly.it/Inglese/Purchasing_Real_Estate_in_Italy.htm Ugo , by  www.lifeinitaly.it

It sounds fishy to me - the notary should give you an 'all in bill' and registration fees are 50 or 250 euros.  It may be that the seller is trying to get you to pay for a rettifica or something that he should be paying for.  Ask him exactly what he is asking you to pay and check with the notaio.
