Hi,I was wondering if somone could help me please. I have property in Sardinia with an ex-partner and I am trying to sell which has been quite a challenge actually. When we bought we took out a 25 year interest and repayment of principle mortgage, when interest rates were high. I have been since asking my ex-partner about remortgaging and he has told me that this is not possible as we were "locked" in to 25 years. I don't really understand this as I have a UK mortgage that I remortgaged. I again questioned this and I think he didn't actually ask the question to the bank contact (Banca Monte di Paschi). I have searched on the internet to no avail. Am I just stupid or is it ridiculous to think that we are fixed for 25 years at a horrendous rate that is bleeding me dry?Can someone point me in the right direction please?Jasmine

Do you have a copy of the document you originally signed for the mortgage? All conditions will be listed there. In any case, only the bank will be able to give you an accurate response. Property sales are a bit slow at the moment, but to sell this property and cancel the mortgage seems to be the ideal solution. Good luck!smiley
