Kim, I may suggest that renovating a property may not be the cheaper or most convenient solution. Renovating properties in Italy IS expensive and in the current market you may be able to find something habitable which may only require "cosmetic" work. My advice would be to keep away from homes which need major renovation. Also, look at the condition of the roof. Generally, that is the area where trouble starts....

Hi Gala,Thanks so much. The roof and the foundations of course!! Yes, I am from a family of builders and have renovated before so I at least am aware of what to look for.. But I am in the market for a project as much as for a vacation/second home and although I certainly am not looking for a total ruin or complete rebuild, I don't mind tackling the roof if necessary! :-)Thanks for your advice and if you know of anything, I would be happy to hear.Kind regards,Kim
