Place to visit
Locorotondo – Its name is derived from Latin “locus rotundus“
A hilltop town which takes its name from the round shape of its floor plan. Its name is derived from Latin locus rotundus that just means “round place”. With its glistening whitewashed buildings and typical cummerse, narrow rectangular town houses with peaked roofs, are remindful of north European architecture.
But from Locorotondo you can easily access the UNESCO town of Alberobello, baroque Martina Franca, the little town of Cisternino with stunning views of the Valle d'itria and the bright town of Ostuni with its slaked limestone. Beaches are a drive away either on the Ionian from the ideally located Locorotondo.
A number of activities could be added to your list to include archealogical visits, museum tours or energise your day with a trip down to the caves of Castellana Grotto or leap over the walls of Matera just over an hour's drive to view this historic wonderment.
