Cantinas and Grapes

09/23/2009 - 13:43

Hi has anyone had experience of taking grapes to a cantina? We have quite a good harvest (I think) but don't have all the equipment to press our own wine - nor the skills I hasten to add. It seems a shame to see them go to waste and I know that the time for picking is probably around nowish...ThanksJo

Are you registered with local cantina? if not they will not touch them, we have been in same position, they need to know grape variety how many times you have sprayed them etc, so this year unless you know someone who does there own fermentation I,am afraid no wine!!! Dave

I thought there might be some catch, thanks for the advice should have thought about things a little sooner. Hopefully next year we will have the equipment! Thanks Jo

Morning S&JWe are in pretty much the same position, with about 20 vines, and I have been making grape juice, wash and put in a large pot, bring to the boil, simmer for 10mins, allow to cool and then bottle and put in the fridge. Keeps for about 5days, though never lasts that long.Use diluted or with a fizzy wine.PS. that little kitten is very lively and we may call her Houdini!A

Thanks for the recipe Angie, will try some grape juice, they taste pretty nice!Re the kitten, Now you know how she got the name Dora the Explorer! She's very adventurous - the other three went off into the campo with mum last night - little stop outs...Jo
