Upgrading from 3kw to 4.5kw with ENEL - how does it work

Our house is about 30 years old and we have just the one trip switch "salva vita" in the fuse box for the whole house. When we bought the house we upgraded from 3kw to 4.5kw but the trip switch wasn't changed. We were told it wasn't necessary as the specification of the existing trip switch was ok.When you upgrade your supply, ENEL does something for you to be able to use the extra power but what is it that controls the limit whatever that may be. Are there trip switches for every level i.e 3kw, 4.5kw, 6kw, 10 kw etc. However assuming ours will handle more than 4.5kw what is it that causes the switch to trip out when you go over your limit. ThanksMartin

If you go over your allowed amount it will be the trip switch on the meter not in the house that will go and a message comes up to say you've tried to use more than you are allowed. We have 4.5kw and have yet to exceed that (after 4 years)

Thanks for that Helen. I think we must have a fault on our side of the ENEL meter as it's the house trip switch that keeps tripping out. Same as you the ENEL trip nevers trips out. It might be that our trip switch is over sensitive or something. It seems fairly easy to change - a couple of wires in and a couple of wires out he says confidently !!CheersMartin
