Help with Trenitalia

12/21/2009 - 12:11

Can anyone shed some light on a little problem......I have been waiting to book a couchette on the overnight train from Pescara to Milan and they are finally on sale. The train I want has the code ICN - Intercitty Notte and therefore I presumed that it would have couchettes. I have been unable to book them on the internet so I called and was told that there are no couchettes on that particular train, but when I ask the next question 'does that mean there will never be couchettes or can I get one on the day' I'm cut off! I've tried in Italain and in English and on both occassions got the same response.Has anyone any experience of this, do they have just seats on some trains. The following one at 2am does have couchettes available, but it seems pointless waiting up then I've already lost loads of sleep.ThanksED

I I I assume you are looking at train 780, and it does not have couchettes. You can find this information on the trenitalia.it website - first you 'select' the train by ticking the 'seleziona' box and then you ask for 'dettagli per selezione'. It is quite clear that this train is seats only.

24 hours on, I realise that I had put a 'theoretical' date into my search. It could be that on some days (of the week, month, I dunno) the train 780 just might have a couchette carriage. Maybe (you know it could make sense) - on a Friday or Saturday or maybe a Sunday, Trenitalia might attach a couchette carriage to that train. So, search on the date you want to travel - and if the site still says no couchettes, believe it.
