Do the Italians have Tool Hire shops in Italy - like HSS?

Hi, I am aware that tradesmen are highly regarded in Italy, and DIY is a fairly new concept, but can anyone suggest where or how it would be possible to rent a floor sander from? I am renovating my house and want to spruce up my original floor boards rather than cover them in laminate, but they require quite a lot of work doing to them....   I am looking for something like this: http://www.hss.com/g/5412/Floor-Sander-240v.html Thanks

I see that you look like you're based in Lucca so if you don't fancy a 4 hour schlep to Northern Italy to your 'local HSS shop', try putting 'Noleggio Attrezzature in Lucca' into Google and it will give you your nearest which I think is either Camiore or Viareggio. Happy Sanding. Tink

You will also find that Castorama has a tool hire centre in all of its stores. I'm firly sure that Leroy Merlin does as well, but you would need to check. Otherwise, as Tinker says above, Google for "noleggio" followed by your area.

Just a thought but how about buying one, then after you have finished your project sell the thing on e-bay. I know that is what quite a few people do, if you buy good tools they tend to hold their value quite well.

I might be a bit wary of doing that if you are in Italy. Ebay is not used very much by Italians to buy or sell second-hand 'stuff', which you will see if you spend a little time browsing through it. It isn't just that people here don't buy much from the internet, just that they are very suspicious of buying something 'old' from someone they don't know. Buy the tool and keep it, I would suggest - there are plenty of Chinese made belt sanders around for not too much money. Unless, that is, you are wanting a large professional type of floor sander - which will cost you more (even in England) than a carpenter would for actually doing the complete job.

I don't know if they have tool hire shops but I do know one can find tools to rent from construction contractors. That's how we did when we needed tools. Construction contractors are pretty much easy to find in any region of Italy. We even payed online through our easysaver for it.
