Travel to & from the Airport

07/26/2010 - 17:21

Hi Does anyone have any idea how much a taxi from Pescara to Sulmona would cost.  Everytime we fly out there we have to hire a car for the day to get ourselves to the house & then return the hire car (in convoy with our car) the next day with the kids in tow.  We'd get a bus or train but sometimes the timings are a bit anti social & with 2 toddlers a taxi would be much easier.  Obviously there's no where near the airport we can leave our car for extended periods. Help & advice much appreciated Dougie & Michelle

Someone else who knows Sulmona! I have a house in Pacentro (no surprise there!) and asked people in the village over a year ago how much a taxi from Pacentro to Pescara would be and was told it would be about 100 euros. Gives you a rough idea.   Best wishes P

Depending upon how often you visit, the prepaid card costing €700 per annum but offering unlimited parking at the airport may be worth your considering. At least you would then have your car immediately available and would not have to rely upon taxis, or remember to book them for the return! I have no idea what the car park is like but is does say it is manned from 0600 to 2300 and is open 24 hrs.

You could consider a bus transfer from the airport. There's a company in Bugnara (near Sulmona) who do that. Their website is: http://www.vedaviaggi.com/ I've used them in the past from Rome and found them very good. It costs about €200 from Fiuimcino to Sulmona (so presumably less from Pescara) and they have a mini-bus so can take a group. The advanatge of that is that they'll meet you in the airport and it's point to point with no hassle and it makes no difference if the hours are odd. If you were flying into Pescara I'm sure they would do a pick up from there.

Although it isn't so far, (I imagine something like 50-55 km), the prices mentioned above look about right. I know that Italian taxis aren't cheap - there doesn't seem to be anything that would equate to the licensed minicab in the UK. Living in a village which has two buses a day (both leaving before 0915), I asked around about this, and found that there are locals who will drive you to the airport / nearest town. All unofficial (and hence no insurance for carrying passengers), but if you ask about in the village, you might find someone who'd be willing to help.
