11259 Spam from newly formatted site.

Since the site has been newly formatted I keep getting 'spam' emails almost everytime I've been on saying "Reply to thread........................"
Anyone else getting them and how can I stop receiving them? :veryconfused:

It sounds to me as if you have subscribed to a/some thread/s and the site is notifying you of new posts. Go to your member centre and unsubscribe.

Of course you may not have done this yourself and it may be just another of the bugs and glitches that have happened during the upgrade. Like the fact that all my pictures have disappeared from my albums and the posts no longer fit on the screen and all the pictures have disappeared from the Pets Corner Group and Lisa C. has had her account mucked up and others can't read the type on the new coloured background and others can’t change the type colour and…………maybe when Ronald is back from his holidays he will try fixing it.

My album photos are also gone. I can get the identification for the photo and its position in the album, but the actual picture has disappeared. I guess that it is going to take some time before all this is fixed.

Photos from the Groups have also vanished....

Thanks Nielo,
I have never subscribed to a thread as I normally just look in New Posts.
When I took your advice and looked under subscribed threads in my Control Panel I saw I was subscribed to 7 pages of threads. :eeeek:
As you say must be one of those bug thingy's.

Yes I too had this Britalia recently but before the upgrade. I had apparently subscribed myself to my Mince Pie thread. I ask you. lol

It does make you wonder when is an upgrade a downgrade?

It was working Ok for me apart from the lack of photos, but now most of the print has gone really tiny and I need a microscope to read it!, anyone else have the same problem?
A

What resolution is your computer set at Angie.??? Check in your controls and report back. Mine is 1024 X 768 and the type is legible.

Yes, some of the print has got smaller for me as well. The welcome Francesca, You last visited etc are all now in very small print, the actual messages are still readable.
I don't appear to be getting any extra spam, thank goodness!
Still I suppose these are all teething problems that will eventually get sorted out.

Francesca

Pictures have now reappeared both in Pets Corner and in personal pages.

Thank you Ronald.

Can I ask why it was not possible to put up a post saying something like:

“We are making and upgrade to the website for (whatever) reason.

In the initial stages after the changes there are likely to be a few adjustments needed. Please let us know if there are any bugs which need sorting out and we will attend t o them as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience and Happy Christmas”

It actually only takes a few seconds and would, in my opinion, make people feel more of a community. But, hey ho it’s your site!

I agree Nielo.... I found the total lack of information on such an important undertaking by management, to be nothing less than a total disregard of their membership...

We were all left wondering what the heck had happened to the site not just for a couple of hours but for days! After all, the outage wasn't a sudden crash was it? But a PLANNED EVENT! Makes me wonder just how much IM 'wants' a forum (or us, for that matter) based on their site?

Oh, stop bloody moaning the pair of you - you're making me redundant - don't you know there's a credit crunch on?

It's not as if I'm going to get a decent reference from here is it?

You are right as usual Julian, its not as if any one were listening anyway is it?:laughs:

Did somebody say something?

Perhaps my (our) concerns are like "that tree that fell in the forest".

Did anyone hear it? It seems not! :nah:

Then again, perhaps >CLICK HERE< this will be the new IM Forum Header Logo ?

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Is that the sound of one hand clapping ???lol

Well I'm still receiving the spam yet when I look in my profile I am no longer subscribed to any threads!
What's to do? :veryconfused:
Has this font changed as well?

I'm sorry IRITALIA, I have no further suggestions, I am merely a passenger so perhaps you need to talk to the pilot?

I do notice that the website is under new management but still has the same pilot I believe. PM to Ronald is your best bet.

If you still get nowhere, can you set your e-mail settings to block mail from Italy Mag?

Hi Nielo,

I have been trying to pm Ronald for days as I am still having the invisibility problem that didn't happen until they mixed my identity up with another Lisa C. but I keep getting the message that his mailbox is full. I also tried leaving a note on his member page but no one has responded.

Lisa

Hi,

thanks to everyone for pointing out issues - we are working through to fix most things.

We did send out a message with regards to the upgrade to our newsletter subscribers - but the forums have not really went through much of an upgrade. Just standard maintenance of the infrastructure and the need to get the style in line with the rest of the website (which is causing some headaches especially with older browsers). We apologise for doing things 'live' on the forums but we figured best to have forums people can access (especially the more frequent users) than no forums at all while we work things out. Add to that the holiday season and you can understand why the change is a dragged out over 7-8 days of which most are holidays!

With regards to the spam - could you forward an example of the spam message to webmaster@italymag.co.uk.

Hope you all had a great Christmas break and best wishes for the new year.

Ronald

Wow, you certainly know how to make us feel special.

Seasons greetings to you too.

I've just put Ronald's response throught Babelfish and got the following:

'blah blah blah, don't care, blah, blah, blah'

Maybe a tad harsh?.............I think they are doing what they can when they can...maybe not the right time of year to do it perhaps ..........

Actually, it's probably exactly the right time of year to do it - the forum is traditionally quiet at Christmas. It's only the diehard regulars with no life that it effects.

I have a life so I'm off to bake yet another batch of my special recipe mince pies that use goosefat instead of butter.

Maybe, but if "they" really cared about us as stakeholders/community members in the forum we would have:
a) known about the changes/benefits/impacts in advance
b) been consulted for suggestions and ideas for improvement
c) received acknowledgement/apologies when things went wrong
d) complimentary packets of goose fat as gestures of goodwill!

Exit soap box (and thread) stage left and eat hearty breakfast.

What you say is true and by inference I think we can deduce that “they” don’t really care about us.

Hi
Community members, yes I agree, but stakeholders ........I think that the advertisers are the stakeholders surely.
For forum members, the look and feel of the site is secondary to the ease of use and accessibility, but as a business base IM has to change its look from time to time to keep up with the competition, otherwise it may fall by the wayside..........and then what would we do.

As to the goose fat.............is there a cross channel swim that I dont know about :laughs:

Anyone else having trouble uploading photos?

I was trying to upload a photo of the snow. It was the correct size but the upload keeps failing.

Any idea why?

Hi Penny
Just tried it myself.......no luck, the problem must be site based.

I've sent Ronald a copy of my spam emails, which are still coming, so lets see what he says the problem is there.
Shame about the piccys vanishing and not being able to upload new ones.
It was a nice feature. :frown:

Please don't get me wrong, the goose fat debate is of much more consequence to me - so thanks D&R for continuing that one.

My line of thought was that the forum existed as one means of demonstrating to advertisers what a good propostion IM was i.e. look at all these active forum members who you can show your product to. As such, I do think we are stakeholders. I fully understand the need for change, but much prefer to be made aware of it in advance and for it to "work".

Hi Penny - uploads should be working now. IRITALIA - thanks, it does look like a setting on your account issue that should be taken care of now. You were automatically signed up to receive instant e-mail notifications for any thread you participated in. So not quite spam (in that it was generated by the forums based on your settings) but equally annoying

Ronald whilst here, please can you sort these links on the left on my Profile Page again. Cheers
