Sorry Gromit, We have a problem with our PC, as in it keeps switching itself off at the most inconvenient times...ie, as I was writing my post and then I don't know what happened!!. I am hoping to take my dog to Scotland with us in November and called a ferry company who operate between Belgium and Edinburgh. Taking our dog with them is not a problem, but the problem is for the 20 hour crossing he will be locked away, unsupervised in a kennel and we would only have access to him twice on the trip. As he suffers from epilepsy I am not very keen to be separated from him for such a long time as we have to administer valium to him when he is fitting.Could anyone recomend any crossing to the UK where , if we can't keep him in a cabin with us, at least we can have regular access to our dog during the trip. Also I would be very grateful to hear any experiences other pet owners have had with getting a pet passport arranged from the Italian side. Many thanks Auds

Hi Auds Firstly I would not bother with a ferry crossing Belgium to Scotland as the time is toooooo long... why not Eurotunnel (20 mins) where the dog can be with you all the time and then drive up (9-10 hours?) by far my preffered choice, not sure if cost is an issue but peace of mind does have a price. Regular ferries say that a dog must be left in the car which is about 90mins minimum, which is not really on in your case either. You must consider what is important and I think it's the dogs health and well being. Re the Dog passport; our daughter just came over for an extended trip wity her Lab and our Vet did the Flea/Tick and Tapeworm treatment required with no problems. If you have to travel a long way why not Google Vets along the route and contact one via email/phone before hand. You need to have it done not less than 24 hrs before arrrival at the place of departure to England and not more than 48 hrs before. So if travelling from Italy have it done on the day of departure and by the time you reach the Channel all should be OK. Hope this helps. Ciao G

I would agree with Gromit, Eurotunnel is the best way to go, I know the drving will be long but it's worth it for both you and your dog.  We took our previous two other dogs to Ireland on the ferry once, I was so worried about them (on the very short crossing) I was sick all the way.  When we got back to the car they were both having a great time sitting on the front seats watching everyone !  Typical ED

Thanks Gromit and Babyeddiedog for your help,I will start to investigate using the eurotunnel, I hadn't actually thought about using it.You are right, It would be better the shorter crossing and driving north from there, at least we can keep an eye on Oscar all through the trip. Thanks AgainAuds
