Huge insurance cost hike

Quote for insurance for contents and building plus public liability for this year arrived this morning - up over 30% from last year. No claims, no change of amounts insured and no accidental damage included. The increase is mostly in the buildings part. I think they may have noticed that we're not so far from L'aquila in Marche Ouch - this was Intasure - I have tried Italsure and they say they are no longer doing policies which cover places used as holiday homes as well as residential. Does anyone know of any other insurers they would recommend. My Italian is not up to understanding the detail of an Italian only policy and I want to make sure of what I am covered for including ideally earthquakes. Is it true that most Italians do not bother with house and contents insurance? Thanks for any advice as ever Am

Hi AM We use Robertson McIssac to insure our holiday home in Italy. They cover earthquakes and the premium that we pay is very reasonable. Here is the link to their foreign home insurance page http://www.rmib.co.uk/foreign_home.html If you scroll down that page there is also a direct email, phone number and contact form. Although we have never had to make a claim they always come across as efficient in our dealings with them. Good luck. Toni & John
