you mean the whole to let the gas go out in a case of emergency?

Don't know what it means, no explanation, and despite googling cannot find anything. The boiler is fine, no condensation, no carbon monoxide. Just want to know what this new regulation is, if it exsists. The boiler is condensing type.

The plumber who installed the boiler should know if it is necessary, anyway I know it is in the kitchen, usually is 12 cm large. I can guess it is for the boiler area too. Ask  to a plumber though, it  wouldn't be such a deal any way 

I have thought of that of course, but what I have asked the forum for is any known current/new legislation. I'm checking to see if there is any validity for this job. This is Italy and I have very good reason to ask. Can find nothing on an internet search. No one else in my apartment block is needing to have it done.

In most countries you will find that it is required.In my town a family had there boiler on a balcony. Over the years they decided to enclose the balcony and use it as a utility room. On enclosing it they did not consider any ventilation. There was a gas leak on the balcony (through boiler)and because it did not have anywhere to escape(through a vent) it drifted into the kitchen where they had their fireplace. As soon as it caught a flame it exploded. The entire enclosure blew off!Gas is dangerous, so hopefully you will see the reasoning whether it is new legislation or not? 

I thought gas boilers had to be fitted on the outside of the house these days in Italy at least. If a condensing boiler then be careful with the condensate pipe freezing up. 

In this part of Italy, close to the appenines boilers are certainly not outside, can get 20 below in winter. Can see the sense of the ventilation, but still looking for the written legislation/law, with dates this regulation was passed. 

it depends on the type of boiler whetheritneeds to be mounted outside or not.  If it is indoors you must have a ventilation - either in the wall or a window, and yes there is legislation.  Your boiler must be serviced annually and the certfication can not be released unless it is 'a norma'
