Markets

The very large markets in Sulmona are the only ones I know of. They are held on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. I haven't noticed antiques but second hand clothing. Very much worth visiting given the setting. Thanks for the info as we are trying to buy old as well as new furniture for the house and are finding it difficult as there are not a lot of second hand furniture stores in the Pescara/Vasto area.

Thanks but not back to the house until July so will miss Pescara. Do you know of any second hand furniture stores as we want to buy old furniture as well as the new stuff we have as we want the house to be a mix of both.

Hi I know you want to buy old furniture but just thought I would let you know. My husband is a carpenter and makes wonderful freestanding pieces for kitchens as well as armoires etc. He uses old doors, hinges, catches etc. from pieces we buy in france and makes the back, shelves etc. in new painted wood.We have renovated our house in Introdacqua with old pieces bought in France and mixed with his new pieces.I would be happy to send you some pics if you can give me an email address. Don't want to sound like a nay-sayer but you may be disappointed looking for old furniture. There isn't much of it around and what there is is over-restored and over-priced. Most people seem (me included) to end up importing furniture from England, either with "a man and a van" or by any other devious means of getting stuff out to Italy cheaply.Or you could drive a van down and stop off at the French second-hand warehouses (can't remember what they're called in French - ?Bricolage?) If you do - let me know - I've got a few chairs I'd like to get to Italy.......It's one of the cultural differences that surprised me - Italians don't appreciate their own antiques/junk/secondhand, whilst coo-ing over the "stilo inglese"Nice to know we do have some style though
